Fifteen minutes until knock off. Even as the owner of my own plumbing company, I love knock off more than anything. I started as an apprentice plumber about thirty-five years ago now and then fifteen years into my career I purchased the company from my boss at the time. I’ve been the boss ever since and I absolutely love it. I love knowing that every second, every minute and every hour that someone in this company works, the money is inevitably going to me. In saying that though, there really is nothing better than knocking off at 3:00 pm on a Friday.

It’s funny how I can be a boss organising our trade scheduling software for the week at 5:00 am on a Monday morning, and then come 3:00 pm Friday afternoon and I feel like an apprentice all over again. It goes without saying that we never truly grow up. At heart, we are all apprentices who just want to make the most of the weekend.

Alright, two minutes until I can go home for the night. I can’t wait to crack open a beer and snuggle into the couch with my wife. We’re up to the series finale of our favourite show tonight. I’ve been looking forward to it all day.

Well, everyone, the day is over. That’s great news for me. It’s time to turn off my plumbing job management software. Melbourne tradies know that no jobs happen after 3:00 pm on a Friday. I won’t need to check the software again until Monday morning. That’s absolute bliss in my humble opinion.

Seeing as I know all too well what it’s like being your joe-average worker, I’ve decided to give all my employees a $100 bonus so spend wisely this weekend. Hope they all have a great one. I’m going to have a great weekend with my family. Here’s to the weekend and here’s to being one week closer to the Christmas break.
